Suffolk Architectural Preservation Trust
SAHT was set up in 1997 to undertake the restoration of
neglected buildings of architectural and historic importance throughout the
County of Suffolk, other than in Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich where well
established trusts have long been active. The
Trust as followed up numerous buildings in the country's Buildings at Risk
register. In many cases this has resulted in such properties coming on to
the market, or in being restored b their owners.
Currently the Trust has acquired St Andrew's church,
Micklefield., a grade 1 listed long empty and much vandalized Church. With
the help of a substantial English Heritage Grant and a loan from the
Architectural Heritage Fund, the Trust plans a complete shell restoration.
Another trust, Anglia Churches Trust, then proposes to take over the property,
converting it to worship in the chancel and community and religious study
purposes in the nave, with a residential component in the tower and at the east
end. Although entirely independent of the
Suffolk Preservation Society its registered offices are at Little Hall, Lavenham,
SPS's base and it enjoys the moral support of that body.
The Trust welcomes information on any historic properties
at risk which could be offered at minimal cost.
